Mini Case Study: Removing Algae from MET Office building

Location: Exeter, UK | Date: March 2021 | Type: Industrial Cleaning & Protection

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Objective

To evaluate the residual efficacy of Aspira’s anti-microbial "de-greening" coating compared to standard industrial cleaning alone. The study was conducted on a 125sqm vertical facade at the Met Office headquarters, a site with high exposure to organic spore loads.

Phase 1: Baseline & Preparation

Phase 2: Controlled Application (A/B Test)

The entire 125sqm facade was mechanically cleaned to remove surface contaminants. Immediately following the clean, a bespoke anti-microbial coating was applied to the center section only, leaving the surrounding cleaned masonry as a control variable.

Phase 3: Verification & Results (9-Month Audit)

A longitudinal review was conducted nine months post-application to measure the "regrowth delta" between the treated and untreated zones.

The MET Office before cleaning and anti-greening treatment The entire wall was cleaned and the central area given an anti-fungal coating At the 9 month evaluation point, the central treated area remained clear
